Bricks + Mortar Group is a women owned insurance and real estate brokerage that specializes in the cannabis industry, the only one like it in Michigan. Since their launch in late 2017, they have grown rapidly, and are still hiring to keep up with demand. Founders Amanda Kugler and Stephanie Goodman initially started the company as the only two employees. They are now up to a team of 12 and still hiring.
This month, Bricks + Mortar Group welcomes two more members to their Berkley, Michigan team, David Engle and Jackson White. David is a Commercial Insurance Sales Specialist with over 3 years of owning and operating his own health, life and supplemental insurance agency.
“David has a lot of experience working with complicated insurance products, he is going to make a huge impact in our Cannabis Insurance Division. We are so excited to have him come on board and continue to grow our book of business within the industry,” says managing partner Stephanie Goodman.
According to Amanda Kugler, David’s expertise working with large employers is a perfect match for the role he will be taking on as a Commercial Insurance Sales Specialist. “I have seen David in action working with large employers and I am excited for our clients to deal with an agent with his level of knowledge and expertise.”
In David’s free time, he serves as the HUPAC Chair for the Metro Detroit chapter of the National Association of Health Underwriters, where he has spent time on the state and federal level working with legislators on bipartisan health care bills. He also has a passion for nonprofits and is currently on the board of directors for Arts & Scraps, a nonprofit located in Detroit, that repurposes manufacturing material scraps into STEM educational craft kits for children in the Metro Detroit area. Bricks + Mortar Group looks forward to watching David apply his insurance knowledge into this new and emerging sector.

The newest and youngest team member, Jackson White, is joining Bricks + Mortar Group in an internship position as the Social Media and Digital Marketing Intern. He is currently enrolled in Michigan State University’s Broad School of Business majoring in Marketing and minoring in Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Jackson’s education and experience is an incredible asset to Bricks + Mortar Group and will be a key factor in driving social media presence and spreading their brand message throughout the community.

I love everything that we stand for as a company – creating and building a strong community and sharing our knowledge and connections for the betterment of the industry. I am so happy to be a part of such a wonderful team,” he said.
Along with being a full-time student, Jackson is member and active vice-president of the Michigan State Men’s Lacrosse Team, where he coordinates all operations for the team.
With these latest additions to the team, Bricks + Mortar Group has completely filled up their current office and they are looking at expansion opportunities in the area.
“It started with the two of us in the office.” said Stephanie Goodman. “When we bought the building a few months ago, we never thought that we would be looking for another one in the spring.”
Bricks + Mortar Group is focused on leveraging technology to reach customers, and provide value in a niche where nobody else is. Their website includes advanced features like an interactive map of Michigan showing all of the municipality marijuana ordinances and zoning requirements, updated news feeds from LARA, and a calendar of local meetings and agendas related to the industry.
